Diet Pills Don’t Work
Diet trends and a dime a dozen — supplements, fad diets & exercise programs that promise weight loss. If there was a “one size fits all” plan, losing weight would be easy. This is not the case — this is where functional medicine and the help of a functional medicine practitioner can help you breakthrough the roadblocks and lose weight successfully.
Roadblocks? WHY CAN’T I LOSE WEIGHT?
There are a multitude of reasons why you can’t lose weight — Below are some of the most common I see in my office:
- Chronic inflammation

Which diet’s work the best?
There are lots of diets that actually work and help you lose weight; however, the issue with “dieting” — is that most people can’t follow them for very long. Instead, you want to adopt a new way of eating, a lifestyle change you can sustain and develop a better relationship with food. Otherwise you may lose the weight but it will just come back again once you fall off the diet.
Which exercises should I do?
When it comes to exercise, I tell my patients to choose an exercise that they like to do. However, in terms of packing the most punch or maximizing your calories burned for the amount of time set aside for exercise, you should check out my new BeFit 6x Exercise Program.
However, exercise not enough — unless you’re doing a lot of it — combining the proper foods with exercise is key. However, exercise can help you keep it off.
Supplements, or “Diet Pill”
Who wouldn’t like to think that all you have to do is pop pill daily and the weight just melts off. Well .. taking a supplement or pill is a lot easier than changing your diet or exercising regularly. There are not any “magic pills” that are going to boost your metabolism and melt the pounds away. There are some supplements that can help support energy production and metabolism — but that assumes that there is also a change in diet and exercise. And, yes, there are some “supplements” that act as stimulants and may cause you to temporarily eat less, but this is not healthy and not a good solution.
