The drive home that changed everything.
For years, Dan Kinney trained in the best courses physical therapy had to offer — treating high school, collegiate, and Olympic-level athletes. But the approach that would define his career didn't come from a textbook. It came from being the patient.
Struggling to walk after an injury, Dan was treated at a course by a colleague who performed a single, simple mobilization of the pelvis. Within minutes, his back pain eased dramatically. On the drive home, years of training suddenly connected: the body doesn't work in isolated parts — it works as one integrated chain, and a restriction in one place quietly forces another to overwork. He didn't announce a new method. He simply started using it — and watched patient after patient get better. That was the beginning of The Kinney Way.
"I realized the painful area was rarely the problem. It was the part paying the price."
One connected chain, from foot to skull.
In a Kinney Way session, Dan gently guides your body through natural movements that should ripple — a chain reaction — from the ground all the way up to the top of your neck. Where a restriction interrupts that chain, the movement stalls, and he can feel exactly where. He releases the restriction by hand, the chain flows again, and the full body moves more freely. Instead of treating where it hurts, he treats what's causing it to hurt.
"Treat the restriction, and the pain takes care of itself."
Not another version of the same therapy.
Traditional care tends to isolate the painful joint — a scan of the sore spot, exercises for that one area, sometimes surgery. The Kinney Way starts from the opposite premise: your body is a system, and the answer is usually somewhere other than where it hurts. Dan reads how your body responds to full-body movement to locate the true source of the dysfunction, then treats that. It's full-body, hands-on, and built to create lasting change rather than temporary relief.
We evaluate three systems — because they're connected.
The Kinney Way looks beyond structure alone. Every patient is assessed across three connected systems, so treatment addresses the whole person:
Structural
Movement patterns, biomechanical restrictions, posture, and musculoskeletal function.
Neurological
Nervous-system response, motor control, coordination, and the protective guarding that trauma creates.
Metabolic
Nutrition, gut health, and the lifestyle factors that drive inflammation and shape recovery.
Proven across the body — and across 25 years.
Over more than two decades, the Kinney Way has helped resolve problems throughout the body:
